Neil on the Banff for people who gave up on flimsy bags

Most of us have quietly settled for a backpack that almost fits the day. The Banff is my answer: one considered bag for work, class, a day hike, and the plans that change.

Canvas Hiking Backpack | BANFF

You have stopped expecting an ordinary backpack to fit the way you actually live. I started Neil Parker in 1997, and for 29 years I have made ready-made bags by hand. This is my farewell sale as I move to custom-only after those 29 years. The Banff is $199.95, against a usual price of $503.95. The shop has a 4.9-star average across 1247 reviews. These are the final ready-made pieces, so they will not be made again.

I have read the messages people send to me for years. They keep telling me that they want one bag to carry the ordinary parts of a day, without making the bag the whole problem. I made the Banff for that conversation.

Most of the decisions were small. I chose the pocket, the lining, and the opening. I refused the part that looked clever but made the day harder. The result still has that old-fashioned shape. It simply has places for what people actually carry.

A body with some grit

I chose waxed cotton canvas and crazy horse leather for the body. I wanted a daily bag with a rugged surface, not a shiny shape pretending to be one. On a weekend away, the soft handle gives your hand an easy place to take hold.

"I was looking for a timeless, handcrafted bag and Neil Parker exceeded my expectations. Its durability, design and craftsmanship make it my go-to bag for both work and travel."

A laptop with a proper place

I insisted on a padded laptop sleeve for laptops up to 15.6 inches. I refused to leave the laptop loose against the bottom of the bag. In an airport line, it has a padded place while the rest of your things stay around it.

"The quality of my Neil Parker bag is unparalleled. The leather is incredibly soft and the attention to detail is impressive."

Pockets for the in-between

I asked for a front flap pocket and two side flap pockets for the things you reach for between stops. I did not want extra pockets just to make the outside look busy. At a weekend market, you can open a flap pocket without unpacking the main compartment.

★★★★★

"Ordered on a Monday and it was on my doorstep in Columbus by Thursday, beautifully wrapped with a handwritten note from Neil. You can tell this was made with care."

4

A closure that stays shut

I chose a drawstring opening with zippers and magnetic buckles. I wanted the top gathered, not gaping every time I set the bag down. On a crowded train, you can move through the aisle without the contents spilling into a pile.

★★★★★

"Neil Parker bags perfectly combine style and functionality. The design is sleek and the compartments are well thought out; my laptop and notebooks fit with room to spare."

5

A pocket out of sight

I insisted on a secret anti-theft zipped pocket at the back. I did not want the small things you carry to sit in plain view all day. At a café, your keys can stay close to your back instead of in an easy-to-reach pocket.

★★★★★

"What sets my Neil Parker bag apart is its versatility. Whether it's a business meeting in New York or a weekend away, it adapts to any occasion effortlessly."

One bag is enough

I asked for a spacious main compartment, an interior zipped pocket, and two slot pockets because one bag should hold a normal day. I refused to make you carry a second tote just in case. On a weekend away, the little things have their own places and the extra bag can stay home.

★★★★★

"I bought this for my husband's birthday and it arrived in Toronto beautifully wrapped, with a handwritten note from Neil. The leather is gorgeous and the stitching is perfect."

The Banff, against the canvas backpacks you have been buying

The usual everyday backpack

Phone and keys at the bottom

Laptop loose in the main compartment

An open top that needs checking

A visible pocket for small essentials

The Banff

Small items have zipped and slot pockets

A padded sleeve holds a laptop up to 15.6 inches

A drawstring and buckles gather the opening

A secret zipped pocket keeps things at the back

The leather ages beautifully, making it an investment I'll cherish for years.

The final ready-made Banff

After 29 years of ready-made bags, I am moving my work to custom-only. The remaining Banff bags are the final stock, and I will not make this one again.

The last price is $199.95, compared with its usual price of $503.95. I am not pretending this is a permanent price. Once the final stock is gone, it is gone, and the next piece will be made differently.

Wrapped by hand

One of the last ready-made Banffs, ready for wherever the day starts.

I read the messages people write to me, and they keep saying the same quiet thing: they want a bag that fits the way they already live, not another one they must adjust their day around. The Banff began with that wish.

If this feels like the bag you have been looking for, check the last stock and ask me anything. You can also send it back within 30 days.

29 years. 30-day returns. Final stock, going custom-only.
